When I first started creating math videos, one of the very first lessons I recorded was How to Divide Decimals.

To my surprise, it became one of the most-viewed videos on my channel. Even today, students continue finding it and using it to learn decimal division.

So if you're teaching decimal division in your classroom, tutoring a student, homeschooling, or reviewing before a test, here's how I recommend using these free and paid resources together.

Step 1 — Watch the Full Lesson Video

Before completing any practice, students should understand why the steps work.

In this lesson, students learn:

  • how to set up a decimal division problem correctly

  • identify the divisor and dividend

  • how to accurately move the decimal

  • how to divide using long division

The lesson is designed for beginners and walks through several examples step by step.

Step 2 — Complete the Dividing Decimals Worksheet

After watching the lesson, students can apply what they learned using the Dividing Decimals Practice Worksheet. An answer key and grading rubric are also included.

The worksheet gradually increases in difficulty and includes both computation practice and real-world word problems.

Students practice:

  • dividing decimals using long division

  • moving decimals accurately

  • checking decimal placement

  • and solving decimal division word problems

Step 3 — Strengthen Understanding with Error Analysis

One of my favorite ways to teach math is through error analysis.

Instead of simply solving problems, students study another student's work, identify the mistake, explain what went wrong, and solve the problem correctly. This activity encourages students to slow down and think about the process instead of memorizing steps. Many students actually enjoy this activity because the focus shifts from "Did I get it wrong?" to "Can I figure out what someone else did wrong?"

Step 4 — Review with Blooket

After students complete the lesson and worksheets, they can reinforce their learning using the Mathora Blooket.

The game provides another opportunity to practice decimal division while keeping students engaged through interactive review.

One lesson.

One skill.

One step at a time.
